Finally! I've finished another piece of writing!
I haven't published in months, mainly because I'm someone who'll have many fics going at once, so they get finished slowly and steadily. I can't really explain why, I guess my brain is simply wired to be multi-tasking! (I'm a girl, after all!) Maybe I shouldn't be writing this "little" introduction here, I guess it should be self-explanatory from the FF, but oh well, I just can' help it. But if you wish to, just skip it ! (or read it later?)
I started this fic months ago, after "See Me" (one of my favorite episodes) made me wonder when and how Alex learned about Frances Goren's condition. She obviously didn't know in Season 1, when Bobby made references to his mother in "The Faithful" and "Seizure", but she seemed to be in the loop by the time "Anti-Thesis" and "See Me" happened. Then, I'd also always wondered what Bobby's childhood was like, and I refuse to be one of those people that believe it was all bad. It was troublesome, no question, but I'm sure there were some comforting moments, too. At some point, these ideas started to "coalesce" into one fic, and I decided to write the moment that Bobby told Alex about his mother and his childhood, and what effect this had on Alex.
I'm not religious, but while searching for a title, I stumbled across a quote from the bible (1 Corinthians, Chapter 13, Verses 11-13), which is also quoted below. These verses talk about how when we're children, we're only able to see things like children and judge the world like children, but that when we grow up, things change and we begin to see things differently. We "understand" and we have to cling to love, the greatest of three virtues. Somehow, these verses summed up perfectly how I felt about Bobby and Frances, a relationship that was complicated, even strained when he was little, but when he grew up, he began to understand his mother and her illness, and even more so he loved her deeply.
The Verses as I've quoted them are a modern bible translation and speak about "a mirror", however, in the originial text, it said "glass" as a synonym for a mirror. This is why I ultimately named the story "Through the Glass, Darkly". It's Bobby's "looking glass" - and its changed over the years.

As some of you may or may not know, I actively compete in dogsports, mainly Agility, sometimes with more, sometimes with less success. Today, a friend of mine sent me this video of Mr. George Richards and his Dachshund "Hummel" competing in Utility B (that's a venue of Obedience) at the Dachshund Specialty last October. Mr. Richards is a whopping 97 (!) years old and what an I say? I'm impressed. No, stunned. To my knowledge, Dachshunds are anything but easy to train and he leads his dog through the exercises as if it wasn't a big deal at all. They may not be the fastest team, but they complete all exercises perfectly and are rewarded with a score of 193/200!!!
Mr. Richards sure attaches a new meaning to the words "Forever Young"!
Check them out yourself!

For a second, surprise numbed me, but one of his hands drawing lazy circles on my back instantly made me melt. Albeit some of his scruff tickeling me, I nestled my head into his neck while I slid my hands around his huge frame, holding onto him for strength. I could hear his heart beating in his chest, quiet and confidant. Finally, I felt secure enough to give into my sorrow and hurt. Tears wetted his blue dress shirt, and I couldn’t stifle the sobs that accompanied them.
“Don’t worry about them,” Bobby whispered. “Some people are out of their right mind.”
